Support for macOS Sonoma
Hi
I know it is a bit early, but is it possible for you do give a hint on when you think you will have support for macOS Sonoma?
Thank you!

I have the same question.

I have same question as well.
Along with this. Sonoma beta has been available to developers for months. Why does GPGTools always lag releases from Apple when the beta is always available to develop and test against?

Same query here, MacOS 14, Sonoma is available publically in 6 days, but GPG suite is not yet supporting it :/ Hopefully that will be achieved soon!

Same question. Isn't the actual release the 26th of this month?
Hopefully we'll get a stable version of gpg suite by then.

So I upgraded to mac mail.app 16.0 today, and it doesn't seem to support GPGSuite 2023.3 - any word on when this will be resolved?

That doesn't sound so great. I rely on signing emails for my daily work, which means no upgrade for me at the moment. Thanks for sharing, Darrel.

I think that GPGSuite hasn't got a beta build supporting sonoma is a little worrying in terms of the time line. The 14.0 stable build for sonoma was released on the 12th, and the release build is scheduled for the 26th, but it's already available to use for anyone with no searching about since public betas don't require a profile any longer. Does anyone have an idea of a work around to this? I've been unable to use GPG suite since adopting sonoma at the end of last month. I suppose building an older version of mail in xcode.

Seeing Apple promote the tool, while for the moment no support on Sonoma and that less than a month ago.
GPG support is mandatory by 2023 for healthy messaging use, so when will we at least see a Roadmap so that we can find workarounds?

As I heard that with Sonoma Apple removed the support for Mail.app plugins, will there even be a Sonoma version of GPGMail at any time in the future? I read about a Mail Extension Interface as successor to plugins, but it was reported as more limited than the plugin interface.
See e.g. https://www.macrumors.com/2023/06/14/macos-sonoma-drops-legacy-mail...
An official statement from the gpgtools team would be great, as Sonoma will be released tomorrow.
Or is there a preview version already around somewhere?
Thanks a lot
Wolfgang

I too have this issue. For now i will be moving to Thunderbird for my mail but am super interested in getting mail back to GPG goodness.

Support is strangely silent... I suspect that this is the end of GPG tools for MacOS with Apple's decision to drop support for legacy plugins.
I hope that I'm wrong... In the meantime, I will be using Mozilla Thunderbird with its native support of GPG.

I see it the same way as Luc. I'm already in the process of moving to Thunderbird. Not exactly what I expected but the inaction of the developers or support leaves me with no other choice.

Hi all,
apologies for the late response.
Our official announcement is now live: https://gpgtools.com/sonoma
But here's the short version:
As many of you have seen, Apple has dropped legacy-style mail plugins completely in macOS Sonoma and "replaced" them with "Mail Extensions".
While we appreciate that there's an officially supported API now since it should guarantee better stability, it's massively lacking a lot of features.
We've pleaded up to the last moment with Apple and still had hopes for RC even RC2 since internally a lot of MailKit was still changing – which of course we had to figure out via reverse-engineering, oh the irony – but it didn't help. Some functionalities which are required for a reliable implementation of GPG Mail as Mail Extension are still missing. It looks like Apple is planning on delivering some of the most crucial ones in the first minor update to macOS Sonoma and so we decided to push our release as well until that version is out.
While legacy-style mail plugins were often a pain, especially since they required so much reverse-engineering to guarantee they work reliably and for adding features, they didn't set a limit on what we could do, as long as we figured out what to do.
With GPG Mail as Mail Extension however, Apple now decides what enhancements of Mail will be possible and what not. So we will have to negotiate a lot with them in the near future to still get missing functionality added.
Thank you for your understanding and for being loyal users.
Cheers,
Lukas

Lukas, I appreciate the update. But you saw this coming, so please, please let us know prior to the event so we have warning to delay upgrades or put a workflow workaround in place. Really no excuse for not giving your paid support customers (at least!) a heads up.
Best,
-Darrel

I second Darrel.
There needs to be a discussion on how this went.
At the moment I am just disappointed and tired.
I know we can send and decipher encrypted files with the help of GPGTools but have not done that in a while.
Maybe we can create a how to DIY guide for everyone that helps until the time our tools run again.
I'll call back later today, it is 1:33 am here.

I'm also highly interested in this…
Since you are asking us to wait till 14.1 is released is it because you are confident that are going to make gpgtools work on that release or is just an arbitrary date?

For now i have switched to postbox as it has nice integration with GPG
and some stuff that was removed from Mail.app a while ago.

The first beta of 14.1 is out, I wonder, if people can share their experience here.
