Installer wants access to control "System Events"
Dear all,
I am installing GPGTools on macOS 10.14.3. During the process of installing the follow message popped up:
"Installer" wants access to control "System Events". Allowing control will provide access to documents and data in "System Events", and to perform actions within that app.<<
- What does GPGTools need this access and control for?
- What is the consequence if this is not granted?
- I did not find a documentation on this by GPGTools. Is there any?
Thanks for our help.
Best regards,
Fabian

Hi Fabian,
welcome to the GPGTools support platform. And thanks for getting in touch in regards to the permission requests you were seeing.
installer
This is a very old mechanism. The purpose was to remove an autostart entry for gpg-agent which was created in very old versions of GPG Suite. This is no longer needed and we created a ticket to remove that mechanism. I connected this discussion with the existing ticket. That means, should this discussion get closed, it will be re-opened as soon as the ticket is closed. That way you'll stay in the loop and get notified as soon as we have news. Feel free to open a new discussions should you run into further problems or need assistance.
GPG Keychain
That access is needed in order for GPG Keychain to create new keys.
All the best,
Steve

#1 has been fixed. If you want to test the fix, please download our latest hotfix GPG Suite. That page also has Signature file and SHA1 to verify the download. Thanks for helping us test this fix.
Should the problem persist, please do let us know.
Should you see trouble using GPG Suite in the future, don't hesitate to get in touch and open a new discussion any time.
Best,
Steve

Dear Steve,
I was wondering when the stable release containing the above mentioned hotfix is released. According to the periods of time between releaes in the past a new release seems overdue.
Best regards,
Fabian

Hi Fabian,
as a policy we do not give ETAs. Today we released a first beta for 2019.1. If you want to try that out just enable the beta channel in System Preferences > GPG Suite.
Kind regards,
Steve
