Which of our tools is giving you problems?

GPGMail

Describe your problem. Add as much detail as possible.

GPG complains about ioctls for GPG when attempting to send an email (or decrypt an existing one), even if PGP is not used.

What did you expect instead

The email to send, if GPG signatures are disabled

Describe steps leading to the problem.

Trying to send an email results in an error message:

<<< START
Unfortunately we can't handle the error at this point.

Should your problem persist, please contact us at https://gpgtools.tenderapp.com/ with the following error description:

gpg: signing failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
gpg: signing failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

END

Turning off signatures and encryption results in the same error message.

If I reinstall GPGTools it goes away, until the next time I restart the computer.

Are you using any other Mail.app plugins?

SpamSieve

    Hi Joseph,

welcome to the GPGTools support platform. Sorry you are having problems using GPG Suite.

Did you ever install a custom gpg version with fink/macports/brew/homebrew/from source? If so, could you remove it, repeat the steps and see if you are still running into the error message.

    Best,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Yes. I have it installed through Homebrew—it gets pulled in as a dependency with some other software I use.
I have removed it and will see if it goes away.

    Many thanks.

    Joseph
