If you have just recently upgraded to macOS Mojave and can‘t find any signs of GPG Mail: Apple disables any installed plugins after installation and they have to be enabled manually.

Let me know if this did the trick.

Disclaimer: This is a development version which has not been thoroughly tested yet - bugs or crashes are to be expected. Thanks for helping us test.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461632102018-10-05T11:52:48Z2023-06-15T01:30:06ZGPGTools 2018.4_2 on Mojave - Mail will not fully start

Steve/GPGTools folks,

Could you please try a "fresh"*** install of Mojave and then GPGTools ? I'm thinking that most people simply do an upgrade. Upgrade will leave "things" - and I'm wondering if something was getting left from previous Mail / OS version that GPGTools is assuming is there. One more data point, in my situation, I did a clean install and then configured and used Mail first (no GPG). Then a bit later (when Mail was not running) - I installed GPGTools. It's after this that Mail wouldn't start.

*** By fresh - I mean booting from a Mojave USB or using Internet Recovery. Use disk utility first to completely format (wipe) the boot drive. This way there is nothing left over from High Sierra or any other previous OS.

brandontag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461632102018-10-05T11:55:05Z2018-10-05T11:55:05ZGPGTools 2018.4_2 on Mojave - Mail will not fully start

HI Brandon,

thanks for the additional input.

What do you mean when you say Mail.app didn't start after install of GPG Suite? Does it crash? Or does the icon just bounce but Mail never opens and you never see a crash report? In case you are see a crash report, can you please send it our way as .txt file.

Does the issue persist after installing the latest nightly build (currently GPG Suite 2332n)?

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461632102018-10-05T11:58:50Z2023-06-15T01:30:06ZGPGTools 2018.4_2 on Mojave - Mail will not fully start

Hey Steve,

Yes I get the small dot indicator in the dock under Mail and it bounces once. However under the Mail menu bar, most options are greyed out (ex: Preferences). So it very much seems like it's "half" running. I do not get a crash report.

Unfortunately I don't have an extra machine or bootable drive to test with. I'll be honest, I'm scared to try nightly as I need Mail for work and I can't have it non-functional.

brandontag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461632102018-10-05T12:01:28Z2018-10-05T12:01:28ZGPGTools 2018.4_2 on Mojave - Mail will not fully start

The nightly has quite a few fixes not in the current 2018.4 release. You can always easily revert to stable if needed.

Would be valuable feedback to have. And if you force quit Mail.app you are also not seeing any crash report?

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461632102018-10-09T22:10:26Z2023-06-15T01:30:06ZGPGTools 2018.4_2 on Mojave - Mail will not fully start

Hey Steve,

Sorry for the delay in response. I'll just say it though - I'm afraid to install a nightly. Once I tried it and I couldn't get Mail to open (even after uninstalling GPGtools) - I'm very gun-shy.

I'm hoping either you guys have an extra machine on which you can do a complete wipe and Mojave install and try - or another user reports success. I just can't not have my Mail functioning.

brandontag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461632102018-10-10T11:18:06Z2018-10-10T11:18:06ZGPGTools 2018.4_2 on Mojave - Mail will not fully start

Brandon, did you get in touch back when you were running into trouble? You can always revert to 2018.4 available on the website.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461632102018-10-10T11:38:08Z2023-06-15T01:30:06ZGPGTools 2018.4_2 on Mojave - Mail will not fully start

I took a deep breath and installed GPG_Suite-2332n (10/1 nightly). So far it seems to be working.

When the next stable comes out - is there any special process to move to that ? Or do I just simply install the stable as normal and it overwrites ?

brandontag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461632102018-10-10T11:40:28Z2018-10-10T11:40:28ZGPGTools 2018.4_2 on Mojave - Mail will not fully start

That's great news. If you run into any trouble, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

The next stable update will show as usually via system notification if you have automatic update checks enabled in System Preferences > GPG Suite Preferences. You can just update and will be back on the stable release line.

Steve
