This comment was split from the discussion: Will not work on macOSX Sierra

A few minutes ago, an automatic update of GPGMail was attempted on one of my Macs. The update appeared to be successful and ended by opening Mail. However, GPGMail was not available in the Mail Preferences. So I went looking in the console for what happened. This is what I found in System.log:

Dec 11 00:15:32 miniserver com.apple.xpc.launchd1: Service exited with abnormal code: 143

In ~/Library/Logs I found the following in gpg-home-fixer.log:

2016-12-11 00:15:32: [fixGpgHome] Fixing '/Users/derekcurrie/.gnupg'... gpg: WARNING: unsafe ownership on configuration file `/Users/derekcurrie/.gnupg/gpg.conf'

2016-12-11 00:15:32: [fixGpgHome] touch gpg-agent.conf using uid: 'derekcurrie'
2016-12-11 00:15:32: [fixGpgHome] Start gpg-agent.
2016-12-11 00:15:32: [fixGpgHome] UID = 0
2016-12-11 00:15:32: [fixGpgHome] Start gpg-agent using uid: 'derekcurrie'
GPG_AGENT_INFO=/Users/derekcurrie/.gnupg/S.gpg-agent:40172:1; export GPG_AGENT_INFO;
2016-12-11 00:15:33: [fixGpgHome] fixGPGAgent done
2016-12-11 00:15:33: [fixGpgHome] done

Undated, I found the following in ~/Library/Logs gmail-uuid-patcher.log:

. . . [uuid-patcher] Trying to find GPGMail bundle... [uuid-patcher] Found GPGMail in /Library/Mail/Bundles/GPGMail.mailbundle [uuid-patcher] GPGMail does not support this version of OS X [uuid-patcher] Trying to find GPGMail bundle... [uuid-patcher] GPGMail not installed

In /Library/Logs gpgmail-uuid-patcher.log I found the same as above.

Why was this update even attempted tonight?

    Hi Derek,

    hope you are well?

Could you please open GPGPreferences > About and tell us which GPG Suite you have installed?

    All the best,

Looking good. You should not see another update until we do release one. Could it be that you were running GPG Suite 2016.08 prior to the update?

No, I was using the same version of GPG Suite. What did change was my deciding to install the current beta of macOS 10.12.2 (16C60b). That’s all I’m aware of that seems obvious.

    Thanks Steve.

Sorry I am unsure what could have triggered the update. Can you please observe this closely and make sure to report back should this happen again.
