Hi all,
yesterday, December 29th, we have sent an email to all of the
watchers in this discussion.
Unfortunately we couldn't simply use our support platform to notify
all watchers, since we were told that if the number of watchers
exceeds a certain amount, no more email notifications will be
sent.
Once we have received some feedback from our users, we will release
the beta on our website and also through our beta update
channel.
To clarify some things mentioned in this discussion:

Crash reporting is optional. You will be asked if you want to opt-in the first time GPGMail discovers a crash.

The reports certainly do not include any keys (neither secret nor public). They are standard macOS crash reports and you can find them under ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ to see what they look like

As with every beta we don't recommend using it in a production environment just yet, since bugs and crashes may occur.
Please report any bugs you find via System Preferences > GPGPreferences > Send Report.
We have added optional crash reporting to GPGMail in order for us to better understand when and where crashes are occuring.

KNOWN ISSUES
* If multiple private keys are available for the same email address, GPGMail currently picks one at random to sign the message
* Some messages might not load correctly. If you can provide us with an example .eml file we'd love to debug the issue.
* If you cancel the pinentry request for signing upon sending a message it might lead to unexpected behavior
* Inline PGP is currently not supported at all, PGP/MIME will be used instead
* "BCC" recpients are currently not treated differently from "TO" or "CC" recipients (gnupg --hidden-recipients option not currently in use)
* The GPGMail Preferences layout is a bit wonky (Mail -> Preferences -> GPGMail)
* Keys that are imported using gnupg cli or GPG Keychain might require a restart of Mail in order to be picked up by GPGMail
* Mail rules for signed or encrypted messages will not work for PGP/MIME signed/encryted messages.
To receive further betas, make sure you are on the beta update channel. Open System Preferenes > GPGPreferences and in the Updates section check the option to 'Include beta builds'. Consider enabling auto-updates to ensure you receive notifications about further beta updates.

i'm a donor/supporter for a long time, and i think it would be professional, and reasonable to expect that posts in the support forum are responded to in a timely manner, whether this is 'donor-ware' or not -- if you want your work taken seriously, communication is essential. i understand the devs have day jobs and can't spend all sorts of time responding to each repetitive support forum post, but the way to alleviate that is to post definitive responses and realistic timelines, so that users, and donors, can manage expectations -- but not in an open-ended, 'maybe it'll happen maybe it won't' kind of way. which is what we have now. so, devs, please, we need more comm with realistic timelines and dates and promises about what you are and are not planning to do. because, if you are not planning to keep this product current, and those of us who use it daily can not count on it from here on out, well, we should wisely go do something else. but to make it into a push-pull, perhaps it's coming, perhaps it's not situation, is disrespectful to all of us who respond with considered bug reports and send you money and thank you genuinely for the good work and useful apps you maintain time and again. so, consider that please. and respond. thanks!

prich, how about the fact that the developers have not interacted on this thread since back in June?! We're now about a week away from release of Sierra, and nothing; complete radio silence. Not to mention people asking in this thread "How can I help with this?" being met with nothing. Further, it's great that the team has open-sourced their code, but they make no visible effort to either get others involved in the project and throw peoplepower at it, or to show where they are with their progress. Maybe that doesn't mean the development team is not motivated, but that sure is the way it comes off to me.

Just curious how you have concluded the team is un-motivated. Could it at all be possible they may be waiting out ALL of the OS changes which have occurred getting to the GM of Sierra ?
Do you actually do any dev work whether it be hw or sw on the side in addition to you day job ?
Since you haven't paid, and it is FREE as far as you are concerned so why are you complaining about arrival dates for what is FREE software for you.

There appears to have been for activity for nearly 2 weeks now, so the maintainers clearly need some help.

Hey B, unfortunately I'm not fluent with obj.c/swift but only java/scala/python and a bunch of other stuff I do for 10+hours/day 6 days/w (startupper...). If I could contribute i would, if I could pay to have it sooner I would as well, but there's nothing I can do with the time/knowledge I have... Anyway, sierra doesn't really add anything to my workflow so I'll just wait for the sierra version to be released.
I'm pretty sure it's apple that changed the underlying software so badly it takes months to rewrite the software and it's not the gpg tools team's fault :P. It's always damn apple :P

So, Sierra has now been out for a week, and not only no beta, but also no commits of any kind to any branch of the GitHub repo since August 12, and nothing public to indicate anything being done toward Sierra compatibility.
There are lots of people out there who'd probably be willing to help, but an open source project that doesn't actually do their work in the open isn't likely to get much help from those people.

Actually Enigmail Plugin works fine, available for:
- Thunderbird - Postbox
In the meanwhile you can decrypt/engrypt your mails in Apple Mail with context menu -> services -> OpenPGP: Sign/Encrypt/Decrypt Selection to New Window and copy/paste.

Actually, if you run your own server, you can use the Roundcube webmail client. Since version 1.2.0 it supports PGP/GPG out of the box and works very nice. It has replaces my Apple mail app and fixed the missing gpgtools.org stuff. Thus I'm actually rather going to donate my money to support Roundcube in the future than I did gpgtools.org in the past.
I understand the policy that impatience is not nice in open source projects, but still those projects should be open in communicating what's going on and keep people involved (especially if they want donations). Open source software shall be transparently developed.

All, I'm disappointed too. One of my macs is on Sierra and my other one I'm holding back on El Capitan. I understand we all like new and shiny things, and we want them now. GPGMail's main purpose isn't being a nice shiny tool... it's a utility we actually depend on a great deal. Personally, I'd rather have something that's had sufficient time in the oven over a false sense of security. Especially given the nature of this software.

+1 to #59; would be nice to have it ready NOW, but more import to be SECURE. Also, having installed Sierra on a dev box, there's nothing to gain from the 'upgrade' - after using for several hours and going back to El Cap there is no significant difference beyond larger emoji in iMessage. If Apple hadn't forsaken the Mac it may matter more to have to wait on an OS update, but those days are long gone.
