I am using a Mac running Yosemite 10.10.4 using GPG -suite.2015.6.dmg SHA1 d2d03deb697e8ee1240336a68f93161dd7e2a515

When trying to validate Firefox file SHA512SUMs.asc against SHASUMS which are both in the same directory and using public key [email blocked] ID 3A06537A I get the following error "verification failed: 153" See attached file.

I can't identify that error number

    Hi there,

can you link all the file you are referring to, so we can try to reproduce the problem.

    All the best,

I am surprised you cannot give a definition for the error "failed-153, which comes from the GPGtools itself?

The files are derived from Firefox download site

there you will find the public key and signature files

    Hi again,

I was able to reproduce the problem. This error code means, the public key, used for signing has expired. And that is indeed the case for the mozilla key.

We should show more informative error messages and do have a ticket for this problem. I connected this discussion with the existing ticket. That means, should this discussion get closed, it will be re-opened as soon as the ticket is closed. That way you'll receive a notification. Feel free to open a new discussions should you run into further problems or need assistance.

    Thanks for bringing this up,

I think the subkey of Mozilla's public key expired/was revoked on 16-Jul-2015. The SHASUMS I'm validating (38.0.1) was signed on 10-Jun so presumably the expiry was just overlooked. I've submitted this onto Mozilla support forum:

Yes the fault is on Mozilla side.

I am more concern with the error failed:153 from the GPGtoolmapplication.
Where would I find the error and possible other errors?

foruminformator: You should not have to find the error at all. The fact that you see the error code instead of an error message is a problem on our side and we do have a ticket for this problem.

This discussion will be updated as soon as we have news about this issue.

I'm closing this discussion in the meantime.
