10.6.8

When signing and/or encrypting emails, GPGMail asks me for a
passphrase, even when the options to store the passphrase on
keychain is selected. Is this normal? Am I doing something daft?
How can I stop the behaviour? Note: when using GPGMil under
Mavericks this did not happen, but since I reinstalled Snow
Leopard, it is ha[pening every time. GPG Suite removal and
re-install does not help. Any ideas?

Please describe what you did expect instead

After initial entry and storage of passphrase in the keychain, I
expected re-entry of passphrase every time I sign or encrypt an
email to not be necessary.

If you remember, please describe the steps leading up to
the problem

Create email, select option to sign/encrypt, send email -
pssphrase requested every time.

David Brooktag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/328189732014-05-07T17:59:29Z2014-05-07T17:59:29Z10.6: Passphrase entry

Hi David,

this should not happen. Please open OS X Keychain, search for
"gnupg" and delete everything you find (warning: this will remove
all stored passphrases, so make sure you have those available in
your head or your safe before removing anything!).

Re-open mail an write an encrypted mail to yourself. See if you
can decrypt that after again storing the passphrase in OS X
keychain.

If all that fails, note, that you can also use the caching
timing for this. Open GPGPreferences and set the caching to a very
high number. That will not prevent pinentry from asking again after
a restart but will give you some rest at least for a few hours.

I tested this on a 10.6 machine and it worked for me.

You only have one key pair of yours?

All the best, steve

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/328189732014-05-08T03:11:37Z2014-05-08T03:11:38Z10.6: Passphrase entry

David Brook

Dear Steve,

Thanks very much for the response. There was no gnupg key in the
OSX keychain, I suspect that is the problem. Have repaired
permissions multiple times but cannot get it to work right. Any
thoughts?
Regards and best wishes,

Everything you say and don't say, and the way you say it or
don't say it, tells me something about you. Everything you do and
don't do, and the way you do it or don't do it, tells me something
else about you. You can't help it, it's automatic - a part of who
you are. You can't stop it either, not convincingly, it'll be
obvious. Nothing beats honesty, I'll see that as well.

David Brooktag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/328189732014-05-23T17:09:27Z2014-05-23T17:09:27Z10.6: Passphrase entry

OK now we know that the passphrase is not saved to the OS X
keychain. I think we had another case of this previously and fixed
the problem.

Could you please download and install our latest nightly
build and see if the problem persists.

All the best, steve

Disclaimer: This is a development version which has not been
thoroughly tested yet, so bugs or crashes are to be expected.
Thanks for helping us test this fix.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/328189732014-05-25T02:41:07Z2014-05-25T02:41:08Z10.6: Passphrase entry

David Brook

Dear Stave,

Thanks for this. Unfortunately the disk image is not viable. I
have tried several times to download it and it always reports as
corrupted.

are you referring to the nightly build? I just tried - it works
