Anyone else having this happen when installing/updating on MacOS Big Sur (11.1)
Which of our tools is giving you problems? Installer.
Attach a screenshot of the version info for all installed components (how to: https://gpgtools.tenderapp.com/kb/faq/where-can-i-find-version-info...): Unable, System Preferences hangs when attempting to display version info.
Describe your problem. Add as much detail as possible. Installer hangs. Following line repeated: ./postinstall: gpg: waiting for lock (held by 38380).... Details and info further below.
What did you expect instead Installer to continue and finish.
Describe steps leading to the problem. Attempting to install / upgrade GPGTools and Mail plugin to the latest version on MacOS Big Sur (fully updated).
Installer hangs after following steps:
./postinstall: [gtk] Test for gpg2... ./postinstall: [gtk] Setting up environment... ./postinstall: [gtk] Importing key... ./postinstall: gpg: key xxxxxxxx: 584 signatures not checked due to missing keys ./postinstall: gpg: key xxxxxxxx: 1 bad signature
Following line repeated: ./postinstall: gpg: waiting for lock (held by 38380).... (This is where the installer hangs). Have to force quit the installer.
I have tried doing and uninstall, reboot, then fresh install: Same result.
I have tried doing uninstall, reboot into safe mode, then fresh install: Same result.
I have tried above steps and using root user credentials: Same result.
Are you using any other Mail.app plugins? No

Hi John,
we are sorry for your bad experience.
It appears that there‘s a stale lock file in your
~/.gnupg
folder. You should be able to see them by running:Please remove any lock files you find and re-try the installation.
Hope that helps.

That fixed it. Removed the mentioned file, and the install went without a hitch. Any idea what would have caused the random lock file?

It’s very rare that this happens, but could occur if your computer crashes while gpg is still running
