Any way of creating a self-extracting or self decrypting file on a Mac ? this would be to send files to people that don't use any kind of encrypting software. with them running either Windows or Mac.
I'm running Mac OS Catalina. and some times I need to email files that contain sensitive info. to businesses that I might just deal with them that one time.

Thanks.

in2ndotag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/483689622020-05-29T22:04:00Z2020-05-29T22:04:00Zself-extracting or self decrypting file

Hi in2ndo,

you mean something that is encrypted with a password and decrypts as soon as the password is entered?

In GPG Services there is an option to "Encrypt with password". Then the recipient does not have to create a key of their own. In order to decrypt they would still have to install OpenPGP.

Hope this helps,
Yes that is what I’m talking about. And I’m aware of the encrypt with password feature.
The problem is that most people still don’t believe encryption is needed. And since the exchange of files is not usually with the same person or company. Is pretty much impossible to get them to install anything. I’ve been able to go around that with some by using ProtonMail. But some times their network security doesn’t allow them to enter the required password on the page that it opens. Imagine that. they'll allow a self decrypting file download but not the completion of a password on a page. but that's how it is.

in2ndotag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/483689622020-06-02T00:10:00Z2020-06-02T00:10:00Zself-extracting or self decrypting file

Hi,

your best option in that case is maybe a password encrypted zip file (unfortunately doesn't provide a particularly strong encryption) since that is supported on most OSs

Luke Le
