GPG Mail: Removing GPG Suite
I want to remove the GPG suite from my PC for several reasons: First of all, it has taken month to start supporting one of the new Apple releases, which is really unacceptable.
Secondly, I found out the hardway that GPG completely disrupts the back up. I had a harddisk crash on my Fusion drive and it proved to be impossible to restore my mail. Everything else could be restored, but not my mails. This makes you tools dangerous.
In addition, I found out that several corporate firewalls block mails that GPG encryption or signatures, which again makes it difficult to use.
Expected
I expect GPG suite to be seamless, meaning, I will not notice it and it will not endanger my backup files. I lost 10 years in mail back ups, which I really hate.

A quick google search reveals a KB detailing how to do this: https://gpgtools.tenderapp.com/kb/faq/uninstall-gpg-suite
This is a common frustration, but sadly they are the only game in town I believe.
I'm not sure why you think GPG tools is the reason you lost 10 years of mail backups, if you are backing everything up properly you should not lose any emails.
The GPG tools team has no control over what "several corporate firewalls" do. If you want privacy & authenticity via signed & encrypted mails, I suppose you'll have to deal with those that may block it regardless of what tools you are using to achieve it.
When used properly, GPG is pretty seamless. There are legitimate beefs people have with the GPG tools team, but yours seem misguided to me.

Hi Mark,
really sorry to hear about your frustration with GPG Suite and GPG Mail.
It would be interesting to learn which companies block OpenPGP signed or encrypted emails. I feel that would be a really bad policy. We have a few clients which go the other way: they enforce OpenPGP encryption amongst their employees and default to sign any outgoing email. Not sure what the incentive of a company would be to prevent their staff from communicating securely.
Regarding your backup situation: Having to fall back on backups isn't a nice thing to begin with. But that's what backups are there for. I have not heard of a case where OpenPGP encrypted or signed email messsages rendered any backup unusable. I am wondering if the Fusion Drive setup comes into play here.
But if you are having difficulties recovering from a backup, I would suggest getting in touch with Apple directly. Loosing 10 years of emails is no fun and no situation anybody wants to be in. So maybe with some assistance you can still manage to recover.
gpg_dude already linked you the KB article with the uninstall instructions. Really sorry to see you go.
If you ever want to return you are always welcome.
All the best,
Steve
