I have this exact same question. I have a message to decrypt but my key isn't both public and secret. Can I make it so now, if I didn't do it, at first?

Hi Ben,
sorry, I'm not sure about this question. Could you elaborate in more detail what you are trying to do and why.
If the type of the key you see in GPG Keychain is "pub" there is no way to just make this key "sec/pub". If you think that key should also have a secret key, this sounds like a case of lost secret key: https://gpgtools.tenderapp.com/kb/gpg-keychain-faq/how-to-revoke-a-...
Let me know if this KB already answered your question.
James, same question for you: are you positive, you did have a sec/pub previously?
We'll go from there.
All the best,
steve
