Lost private key
Hi guys,
My HD failed and is unrecoverable. I've lost my PGP private key but I have the passphrase and public key. Is there any way to recover the private key so can encrypt/decrypt messages?
The key was made in GPG suite and I've downloaded this for another mac but can't seem to find a way to "login" so to speak so I can access my kets.

Hi Matt,
No, it's not possible to recover the private key from a password, as the latter only unlocks the key, but can do nothing besides that.
If you don't have a copy of the private key somewhere then I fear there is nothing you can do to recover the key.
Regards,
Marc

Hi Matt,
welcome to the GPGTools support platform. Sorry to hear about your HD failure :(
As Marc correctly states, if you do not have a backup of the failed harddrive and that was the only location your secret key was kept, there is indeed no way to recover it.
If you have a backup or you also kept your secret key on another mac you will be able to get back to working state.
Best,
Steve
