Dear all.
I have a customer who uses GPG Tools on Mac (version information in attached file) for encrypted communication between Mac mail and Outlook/Exchange.
The encryption on our site happens on TotemoMail. Everything works for a few days, few mails. After that the attachments arrive in Mail, but the message body is empty.
Does anyone knows this behavior?
thanks in advance.

    Hi Markus,

welcome to the GPGTools support platform. Sorry you are having problems using GPG Suite.

With totemo email encryption we had a few user reports and discovered, this service has some known problems

    • not enforcing MDC - MDC is essential and helps to prevent attacks on OpenPGP encrypted messages. While totemo suggests to use MDC, it does not enforce it's usage and we have received support requests from several users, who received totemo messages from contacts lacking an MDC and thus putting the communication at risk.
    • using proprietary Partitioned/PGP format while defaulting to PGP/MIME would be the better default

We asked totemo development whether they wanted to enforce MDC usage in future versions of their software, but they didn't clearly answer that question. So if you want to continue using Totemo, you should make sure MDC is always used for any OpenPGP message.

Please export the message in question, so that we can have a closer look. To export, simply select the message in Mail.app and press CMD + SHIFT + S, select "Raw Message Source" as type and save it. We won't of course be able to decrypt it, but it will help with analyzing and hopefully finding a solution for your problem.

Attach the resulting .eml file to this discussion by visiting it in your browser (email reply should work but sometimes attachments do not arrive).

    All the best,
    Steve
