However, I also find the information given about the purchase insufficient. I need to know first:

Is this a one-time feee or a yearly fee?

Will this payment be bound to a computer or to a person? Meaning: I have more than one Mac - do I have to purchase multiple licenses or just one if I use it on all my Macs?

Similarly to #2, what about companies where the software could be installed on multiple Macs, with multiple user accounts being used on each?

#4 The text that appears in the "Software Update" dialog should include a link to the payment conditions - people want to know how much they have to pay for BEFORE they install the new version.

All this information should be given in the popup window that appears when clicking "support plan" on the main page (https://gpgtools.org). The current info there leaves open too many questions.

Thomas Tempelmanntag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461293612018-09-23T08:52:49Z2018-09-23T08:52:50ZI'm shocked by all this hate speech

"Shocked" is very appropriate. Had this not been foisted upon users in such a ham-fisted, almost arrogant, manner, the response would surely have been muted.

Granted, a "warning" was sounded quite some time ago. However, like being told that you were going to be given a whack to the head 'sometime' in the future and to be prepared for it, and then to eventually be crept-up upon to have the blow finally delivered in such a furtive manner is almost laughable in its amateurism as it is destructive to the developer's goodwill.

No Bob, you should not be shocked. This was to be expected. Probably just as the cooler heads at this organisation had warned their colleagues.

Bubba Singhtag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461293612018-09-23T10:26:56Z2018-09-23T10:26:57ZI'm shocked by all this hate speech

I was surprised at first, but I expected it since they announced it a year ago.

Nevertheless, I bought it, and I I am happy they provided a solution before Monday.

But - there are some issues: Please provide a sheet with the terms of condition, like licence guilty for one person, one computer? And there should be a possibility to add the licence after you purchased it - for me I had to install the gpgtools again to add my licence ...

Martintag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461293612018-09-23T10:27:36Z2018-09-23T10:27:37ZI'm shocked by all this hate speech

I agree with the fact that the hate speech got out of reasonable proportions, we all knew that the solution would stay free only until the end of the beta period.

But I also agree with Thomas about the scarcity of information regarding the support plan, added to the lack of response from developers, which is completely unprofessional. How can someone pay such a plan when absolutely no information about what is being paid is provided? (As others already said: per computer, per user account? Lifetime fee, annual, monthly? ...)

Williamstag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461293612018-09-23T12:40:47Z2018-09-23T12:40:48ZI'm shocked by all this hate speech

First off, the communication of the team was just about as lousy as it gets. Second off, being an open source developer myself I feel fooled.

It's not that they ask for payment or a donation - it's the matter in which they do it. First thing I thought when I saw that dialogue was "wow, blackmailed!".

I'm an idealist and will keep working on open source software and I hope people are enjoying the effort I put into it. I have a day job as a software architect that pays my bills so there. I'm just disgusted by the way the devs handled this.

So there, rant over, software uninstalled. Cheers.

Bobtag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461293612018-09-23T13:01:24Z2018-09-23T13:01:26ZI'm shocked by all this hate speech

It is the lack of speech that should have you concerned. The $25.00 is a small price to pay for a good set of tools. This issue is the lack of open, honest and responsible communication with the community of users. Particularly with tools designed to ensure effective communication.

Patrik Williamstag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/461293612018-10-19T16:38:01Z2018-10-19T16:38:02ZI'm shocked by all this hate speech

Maybe it was announced at this website, but I don't believe that any warning was given to users who downloaded and installed the software some time ago who don't frequent this site.

I know that I was taken by surprise, and resent what has been done here. No "hate speech;" I believe that the lack of communication and inability to downgrade back to what I had is all underhanded chicanery. An after the fact apology is insincere if it doesn't also offer an amends. They don't seem to have any interest in making their wrong right.

Rob
