Installed the latest beta. Set it up according to the instructions. Successfully created the GPG key. I then followed the instructions for creating my first encrypted mail. I followed all the steps and both the lock and star icon were blue and not dark grey and the lock was closed. My completed email looked identical to the one shown. I clicked on the send icon and the popup asking for my pass phrase opened and I entered it. The mail was then sent to myself ( used the same email address as shown in the screenshot). When I received the email, the message was not encrypted and the lock was closed. I tried several more times and now when I go to send it, I am not asked for my pass phrase. No matter what way I try... I even added a second email address... the message does not encrypt and as I mentioned, I am no longer asked for the passphrase.

    Hi Iona,

I have good news, your eyes are fully intact. This is a recent change and I have just added an item to my to-do. That item is about updating the KB article you are referring to with new screenshots.

We did change the icon for an encrypted mail. Many users where interpreting the open lock as an unencrypted mail. So while the mail you see is in fact encrypted, it has alreayd been decrypted by GPGMail. The open lock makes little sense since users ideally never would see a closed lock. Decrypting the mail is what GPGMail is there for so if you setup alright it should just do it's thing.

If a mail does not get decrypted there is likely an error and then you'll see an error message.

As not being asked for your passphrase, please have a look at this KB article explaining your options for passphrase mangement: http://support.gpgtools.org/kb/faq/passphrase-management

Let me know if this answers your questions.

    All the best,
    steve
