MacGPG2: Annoying default behavior

Using 2.7b3. Unfortunately I don’t have many email correspondents who also have GPG. So most of the time that I want to send an email I send it unencrypted and unsigned.
By default, when I open a new draft email, it opens with the signature button selected (blue) and the button menu in the upper left set to OpenPGP (green). In settings I have not saved my password in the keychain but instead have “Remember for 600 seconds” checked.
So after opening a new email draft, I immediately unselect the signature button. Despite doing so, after a few seconds a dialog pops up asking me for my GPG password. This usually ends up causing me to type 20-30 characters that I intended to be in the body of my email going into the password field in the dialog instead. This is most annoying. There doesn’t seem to be any way of changing this behavior in settings.

Expected
I don’t want the password dialog to come up unexpectedly, under conditions where the password is not needed (i.e. not encrypting or signing, or with S/MIME selected instead of OpenPGP.

I think I found the solution to my own problem. I had been looking in System Preferences->GPGPreferences->Settings. What I needed was in Mail->Preferences->GPGMail->Settings. I unchecked "Encrypt drafts" and "Sign new messages by default". I'm betting that will solve the problem.
