GPGMail: OpenPGP button stays grey

When I compose a message, the OpenPGP button in the upper right corner stays grey, even if the recipient keys are in my GPG Keychain. I can’t encrypt or sign any messages. Incoming encrypted messages are decrypted fine (though I have to send responses in plaintext).

Expected
I expected a green OpenPGP button and the option to sign and encrypt a message I am composing.

As additional info, in the GPGMail settings it says "GPG is ready" next to a green button, and I have checked "encrypt drafts", "encrypt new messages by default" and "sign new messages by default".

    Hi Claudia,

welcome to the GPGTools support platform. Sorry you are having problems using GPG Suite.

From what you write it sounds like everything is working as expected. Can you try to send yourself an encrypted and signed message to the exact email address you used in your OpenPGP key. Does that work?

    Best,
    steve

That was indeed one of the first things I tried. Sadly, it doesn't work.

The OpenPGP rectangle in the upper right corner of a composed email stays grey and never turns green.

I double checked the email addresses associated to the key and one of the aliases of my mail had a typo. I removed the bad alias, included the correct one, and suddenly everything works. :)
