Drafts not being deleted when reply is sent and threaded messag view is active
In my GPGMail settings, I have "Encrypt drafts" turned off.
In my Gmail account settings, I have "Store draft messages on the server" turned off.
However, ever since I installed the beta, I'm seeing drafts get created on a message thread as I type, and they stick around even after I send the finished message.
Anyone else seeing this behavior?

I have experienced these "draft-duplicates" since 10.9.4 and it´s continuing in 10.10.0
2 Posted by basepi on 06 Nov, 2014 04:23 PM
Interesting, I didn't hit them at all before upgrading to 10.10.
Actually, that's not true, initially I had settings like "Store draft messages on the server" turned on in 10.9 and that was causing duplicates, but I managed to eliminate them by turning that setting off. They started again the moment I installed the Yosemite Beta of GPGMail.
I should note that my version is 2.5b1.

I have drafts stored locally. Since I installed the beta, these are being created much more frequently than before (with or without previous GPGTools installed), and aren't deleted when the message is sent - so I have to manually delete them.

Hi everybody,
thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have fixed several issues in relation to drafts so it would be great if anybody affected by this could download and install our latest nightly build and see if the problem persists.
You can find sig and SHA1 on the GPGTools Nightlies page.
Also you might want to experiment with drafts a) having GPGMail active in Mail.app and b) having GPGMail disabled:
Restart mail and check in Mail.app > Preferences if you still see GPGMail. It should be gone.
Let us know how this goes and what your findings are.
All the best, steve

I just installed it, with the attached result :(

Hey Ian,
can you please copy all version info here:
How to do that
That information will help us to find an entry point for hunting down this problem.
Best regards, Steve

hi Steve, the nightly does not work, getting same error as Ian.
Support Staff 9 Posted by Steve on 23 Dec, 2014 11:06 PM
Sorry everbody, I thought the nightly already included the GPGMail beta - it does not. My bad.
So to test this:
Then retry and see if the draft issues are persisting.
Regards,
steve

In GPGSuite beta 3 prefs I cannot find the options to activate nightly channels for the different tools.
A search for "nightlies" in the knowledge-base returned no useful hint.

Sorry, I made a mistake: I looked in GPGMail-prefs instead of GPGPreferences in SystemPrefs.
Have started testing now.

So far the draft issues have disappeared. Thanks!

Hi all,
thanks for your feedback.
From what I understand Ian's draft issues have been fixed.
Thomas and basepi: Do you have any test results already?
All the best,
steve

I'm still getting the occasional persistent draft, but less frequently than before (both PGP-processed and not messages).
Cheers,
Ian.

I had no draft duplicates or persistent drafts since I started testing.
I must add that because of the holidays I wrote less emails than usual.
Support Staff 16 Posted by Steve on 29 Dec, 2014 04:21 PM
Ok I think we can close this.
Ian: what you are describing is actually a mail.app feature. If you have a composing window open long enough, mail will auto-save a draft. When you then close the composing window you will find that draft.
So this behavior exists independently of GPGMail. And it's indeed a feature not a bug :)
basepi: if this is persisting for you, please do re-open this discussion.
If anybody needs further assistance or runs into other problems, please open a new discussion.
Kindly,
steve

I know it's a general feature of mail.app - but GPGMail changes its behaviour - without GPGMail, drafts are always deleted when I send the final message. With, sometimes not. Anyway, thanks!
Cheers,
Ian.

Ian, this would be a bug then. Are you able to reproduce the behavior you described in Comment #17? Could you write down exact steps with timings (ideally). If we have that I'd be happy to try to reproduce here.
19 Posted by Ian Brown on 30 Dec, 2014 10:05 AM
It seems quite random, but I just had one example. I replied to a (non-PGP) message, starting at 1000. Almost immediately, a partially-complete draft was saved. I sent the full message at 1003, but the draft wasn't deleted.
Cheers,
Ian.

Hi Ian,
unfortunately this also seems to be an issue if GPGMail is not installed. I'm not sure what the reason is, and it happens to infrequently that we don't know where to start at the moment.
What I found is, that it seems to happen if Mail refreshes the view of the message which is selected and adds the preview of the auto-saved draft.
We'll keep looking.
Support Staff 22 Posted by Steve on 28 May, 2015 07:13 PM
Ian, are you still seeing this? Drafts that do not get deleted when using the latest beta?
Are you on 10.10.3 already?
Support Staff 23 Posted by Steve on 01 Jun, 2015 07:06 PM
Hi all,
I'd like to share my findings with you concerning drafts issues in Mail.app so far.
Under 10.10.3 we have not been able to reproduce any undeleted drafts when using an IMAP account.
This is independently of whether
It would be tremendously helpful, if all that were affected by this could test and see if the issue persists with the latest OS X + GPG Suite b6.
If the issue persists, please do let us know if you are using POP or IMAP for your mail account and try to find an exact pattern, how the issue can be triggered.
We are aware that issues under 10.9 and 10.10 with drafts remain when POP accounts are being used and have an existing ticket for that. But I wanted to ensure, no one is still seeing draft issues when using IMAP.
Thanks for your help and kind regards,
steve

I'm using the latest MacOS Mail (Version 8.2 (2098)) and GPGMail (2.5b6 Build 917b). I seem to be getting these unwanted saved drafts for about 50% of my sent messages. I haven't yet worked out if there's a pattern to which 50%, but I'll keep working on it!
25 Posted by Ian Brown on 02 Jun, 2015 02:52 PM
PS I'm using IMAP (connected to a Microsoft Exchange server), but storing drafts locally.
Support Staff 26 Posted by Steve on 23 Jun, 2015 09:37 PM
Ian, since we didn't fix anything in that area for GPG Suite 2015.06 I assume this is still persisting with the new stable build? Would be great to get an update on that.
And did you try disabling GPGMail to see if the issue happens with the plugin disabled?
Restart mail and check in Mail.app > Preferences if you still see GPGMail. It should be gone.
Support Staff 27 Posted by Steve on 23 Jun, 2015 09:41 PM
Oh and another user who had quite heavy draft issues under 10.10 solved those by re-building his mailboxes. He did quite a clean up and his exact steps were:
Please make sure to create a backup before starting any rebuilding of mailboxes. Those exact steps may not apply to your problem, but I still thought I'd share them to give an idea of how this could also be approached. Interestingly enough all draft issues are now gone for that user.

steve

Dear Steve - yes, it’s still happening. I just tried disabling GPGMail as you describe below, which seems to have fixed the problem. (I will keep testing this and let you know if it reappears before I reinstall the plugin).
Best wishes,
Ian.

Hey Ian,
another ping to request the status quo of this issue. Have you updated to 10.11? Did GPG Suite 2015.09 change anything for the better or worse?
30 Posted by Ian Brown on 22 Jan, 2016 12:12 PM
Hi Steve. Have just updated. Will let you know if it changes things.
Best,
Ian.
