GPG keychain does not - always - work in Yosemite (MacGPG2 #141 FIXED)

After updating to Yosemite on an iMac from 2007 and installing PGPtools the gpgkeychain was empty. When I installed it last week on a Macbook, gpgkeychain still had the data of the previous version.

GPGmail was updated to the latest version.

GPGkeychain on the iMac:
- I cannot install a new key through the lookup function. The key is found but the window after the import is empty. - I cannot import the keys I had backed up on a Macbook. I get two different error messages: - missing self signature - import failed, non PGP data ( I had backed up the data 5 minutes earlier)

I cannot create a knew key, the whole GPGkeychain does not work any more. It does not crach, that the only positive thing to tell.

It's possible to downgrade GPGTools for working properly if you are using Postbox.

    Hi Luc,

it's highly likely that the .gnupg folder has the wrong permissions.
    Could you please post them?

    Thanks!

I have repaired the permissions through Disk Utility but the GPG Keychain still does not work. The attached file is the situation after the repair.

I have downloaded the b2 and uninstalled version b1. After the uninstall, the .gnupg folder was still there.

Installing the b2 did not repair the problem. GPG keychain still does not work.

Can I delete the .gnupg folder manually after the uninstall? Perhaps with a clear start things might work again.

    Hi,

The gpgkeychain still does not work. Perrmission seem ok, I repaired them as I wrote on the support page.

Attached are two crash-reports from my Mac (Yosemite 10.10).

GPG installs files with names like .#lk0x10040f060.Macintosh-2.local.1107 in .gpupg

    1 when starting gpg keychain
2 when trying to import a key

I uploaded one of these files but put AA before the name!

The latest nighty GPGKeychain (939n) does not solve the problem

I installed the b2 on my Macbook and that seems to work fine. The only problem remains the imac from 2007 and 10.10. With the latest release version the mail does not work but GPG Keychain works fine. With the b1 and b2, nothing works.

I uninstalled the app and deleted the .gpupg folder. After re-installing the b2 the GPG Keychain still isn't working.

The app is definitely not working on an iMac from mid 2007 with Yosemite 10.10.1

This comment was split into a new discussion: GPG Keychain "Missing self-signature" error

I get the same "missing self signature - import failed" error when I try to import my transfered secure key (never had a problem doin' it before).

I am also using an iMac mid 2007 with Yosemite

    Hi Luc,

attached you'll find a new MacGPG2 version which should hopefully work on your computer.
It would be great if you could test it and let us know if this one still crashes.

    Steps:

1.) Download and install the MacGPG2 dmg attached to this discussion
2.) Open Terminal and run the following command:

    gpg --list-keys

3.) Post the output you're seeing

    Thanks!

what does the error tell you?

@Koev36: could you also check for any crash logs related to gnupg? That would be helpful to verify if the crash still occurs in the same method.

The error only tells me that we haven't found the issue yet unfortunately.

I have similar problem: after installing GPG Beta the GPG Keychain was empty. The SHA-1 was verified, but the GPG signature failed--see the attached screen shot. I didn't find what do do in that case.. I'm using a mid 2007 Macbook Pro 15" 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo on 10.10.1. RSVP, if you need more info. Thanks. Ken

    Hi all,

here's the next one. Same procedure as with the last one except, please make sure to run the uninstaller in the dmg first.
Would be great if you could test again and post the outcome.

    Thanks!

    Hi Luc,

    ha, didn't expect that.
So to uninstall please run the following command in the meantime:

    sudo rm /usr/local/MacGPG2

after that install the new version.
Thank you very much for the help!
