GPGMail: Problems to show draft e-mail (shows encrypted.asc attachment)
Hi,
GPGTools 2.6.1
OS X 10.11.5
I have the problem that I can't read my drafts anymore.
If I will open a draft mail in Apple Mail I fill out my passphrase and than I got a window with two documents in the mail,
"Mail Anhang" and "encrypted" the encrypted file is a text file with html, a header etc.
I have attached a screenshot from my draft window.
What can I do to work normally with my mail drafts?
Kind regards,
Jan

Hey Jan,
welcome to the GPGTools community support platform. Sorry you are having problems using GPG Suite. Please excuse the slow response.
This is a known bug. To workaround, drag the encrypted.asc attachment to your desktop and then open that file with TextEdit. You should then be able to decrypt the encrypted message with GPGServices.
We have a ticket for this problem. I connected this discussion with the existing ticket. That means, should this discussion get closed, it will be re-opened as soon as the ticket is closed. That way you'll stay in the loop and get notified as soon as we have news. Feel free to open a new discussions should you run into further problems or need assistance.
Let me know if this did work.
All the best,
steve

Before I opened the .asc I insered my GPG passphrase.Any ideas?

Hi Jan,
that looks like an encrypted message and not like a decrypted textblock.
So what happens if you try to decrypt that text?
The following two Knowledge Base articles explain how GPGServices is used:

Guys,
This is really really painful, all my drafts and canned responses are affected. The trick to decrypt kind of works for US characters, but not for non-roman, such as French or Japanese (UTF-8): I'm getting stuff such as:
I had important stuff in my drafts and canned responses is a big job, can you please help?
Thanks

Hi,
if I start Mail new I go to the draft section, got the GPG Passphrase window. I type it in and than I select my draft.
Next save the .asc in a folder and open it with Textedit.
than I got this
or sometimes the same like Stephen.
I use german language on my system and mails.
Cheers,
Jan

We did help out szadounaisky via live chat and added a section to the workaround KB.
Jan if you still need help, do let us know.

Yes, big thanks once again Steve,
The trick was (and I guess it should work for any non-roman characters (French, German, Japanese, Korean or what have you), to use the text file produced by the temporary workaround (link at the top of this page), but then to rename it .eml instead of .txt. Then Apple Mail can digest it and tada... all your content is back.

Stephen, that's in the KB now too (:

the issue where drafts where unintentionally encrypted twice has been fixed. If you want to test the fix, please download our latest nightly GPG Suite. That page also has sig and SHA1 to verify the download.
Should the problem persist, please re-open this discussion and let us know. For more questions that are not related to this specific problem, you are welcome to create a new discussion any time.

Hallo Steve,
it was fixed but now I have the problem again.
OSX 10.11.6
GPGMail 2.6.3 Build: 1211n
It is really a workingbreaker because I can’t read my old E-mails and this is sometime necessary for
my job. And if its not possible I get some critical problems.
Actually I think about to deinstall the GPGTools. It makes more problems than it solves, because a lot of people don’t use GPG
or don’t know that it exist.
Kindly,
Jan Stieler

Hi Jan,
steve
