GPG services not working

Hello
Installed everything from latest - just now.

In Services I can now see the OpenPGP shortcuts in the list, but there are no shortcuts associated with them and when I double-click and try a key combination, I get an error sound. Why does your screen cast refer to this when this doesnt happen?

So then I open textedit, type text, right click, no services listed. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Mark

    Hi Mark,

unfortunately OS X Services are a little bit difficult to implement, that's why the behaviour of GPGServices is sometimes somehow undefined.

Could you try to install the GPGServices nightly from

    http://nightly.gpgtools.org/GPGServices-trunk.dmg

This should solve most of your problems.

Let us know if it works

it didn't re services. mail is now working with gpg though (which maybe it already did). i'm not a good example because i rsync ~ between my desktop and laptop macs. i've rsynced to the laptop i'm on now, forgetting i didnt get the latest gpgtools (previous one was 2010). applied the nightly, then the new gpgtools, then the nightly again (assuming it contained patches). no luck. but that might be me.

happy to be a beta tester if you need. i'm in the uk, on 10.6.8 i7 unibody.

    cheers for your help

    Hey Mark.

Let's try to pin down what the issue is at hand. So you installed the latest GPGTools installer from here: http://nightly.gpgtools.org/ ?

What is currently broken? You say the keyboard shortcuts for GPGS are broken? In the screencast no shortcuts are being used. What exactly do you mean?

This sounds like the same problem I have. I installed the latest version of GPGTools without unchecking any sub options. I tried to follow the screencast but my keyboard menu within system preferences doesn't look like the one on the cast, it makes no mention of 'services' or of any PGP stuff.

Within textedit right clicking does not reveal any 'services' menu, I haven't tried mail because I only use webmail.

I installed the most recent nightly build of GPGServices (29th Jan) and still no luck.

I'm using a macbook white about 3 years old. Thank you in advance. I really appreciate the hard work you guys put into all this.

Mark, I think I'm understanding what trouble you're having.

The Keyboard preference pane reads "To change a shortcut, double-click the shortcut and hold down the new keys." But this should more properly read "To change a shortcut, first click to highlight a service; then click on the service's keyboard shortcut to edit it; then type the new shortcut."

If you double-click as it advises, it will just beep and do nothing.

Also, make sure to check the checkbox beside all the OpenPGP services which you want to be active in your apps.

    jeremy_stopes, this is the procedure:

    1. open System Preferences
    2. click "Keyboard"
    3. click on the "Keyboard Shortcuts" tab
    4. click on the "Services" item in the left panel
    5. scroll down to the OpenPGP services in the right panel
    6. check the checkbox for all you wish to activate

Dear C, thanks so much for your contributions.

@mark and @jeremy: Did C Faire's info help you guys with your issues? Jeremy since your issue seems to differ, it might be smart to create a separate discussion for your problem since it can be very confusing talking about two issues in one thread.

    All the best, steve
