welcome to the GPGTools support platform. Sorry you are having
problems using GPG Suite.

So you have Key 1 and Key 2. Key 1 was the first key you
created. Any contect encrypted with that key, you will only be able
to decrypt using the secret key part of key 1. You now revoked and
deleted Key 1. But the encrypted content is still encrypted with
the public key part of Key 1. Thus for the decryption process the
secret key part of Key 1 is required.

Does that make sense?

All the best,

Not quite. I created key 1 but I want to decrypt using key 2,
however the GPGKeychain will only allow me to attempt to decrypt
using the keyboard shortcut with key 1, even when I set key 2 to be
my primary key. Can't seem to find another way to manually decrypt
with key 2.

Any suggestions?

maybe my explanation wasn't clear. If you encrypt data with
public key 1, that data will always be encrypted with that public
key. Thus, decryption can only happen with secret key 1.

No matter which key is your primary key, that will not alter the
structure of the encrypted data, right?

That means, any data that is encrypted with a certain public
key, will always only be decryptable with the corresponding private
key. That's why pinentry keeps asking for the password of key 1
whenever you try to decrypt that certain data.

So in order to be able to decrypt with key 2, the process would
be:

decrypt with key 1

encrypt with key 2

Let me know if this sounds reasonable.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/412534892016-11-18T19:51:24Z2016-11-18T19:51:26ZGPG Keychain: Can't change my default key for decryption

My apologies lol I wasn't clear.. My issue is I have a block of
data encrypted by a friend using the public block of key 2, but
GPGkeychain won't seem to allow me to attempt to decrypt it with
anything besides key 1, despite my efforts to make key 2 my primary
key, revoke/delete key 1, etc. Does that make sense?

the message has been encrypted. So from what you write, this sounds
like your contact used public key 1 to encrypt the message.

To see with which key the message has been encrypted with:

open terminal.app

type gpg2 and press enter

paste your OpenPGP message (from -----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE----- to
-----END PGP MESSAGE-----) and again press enter

You'll then see with which keys the message is encrytped.
