<p>(1) you can use GPGServices for this task.</p>
<p>(2) I can't tell you that since I neither have used PGP nor do I
have a file to test with. But why not test that yourself?
GPGServices is available for 10.6. Please use the latest <a href=
"https://nightly.gpgtools.org">nightly build of GPGServices</a>
because it contains many fixes not in the current stable.</p>
<p>Let us know how it goes.</p>
<p>Best, steve</p></div>Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/240108802013-01-20T21:20:17Z2013-01-20T21:20:18ZGPGServices broken on 10.6<div><p>Thanks, Steve.</p>
<p>A couple more questions, if you don't mind.</p>
<p>(1) Do I install GPGTools in order to use GPGServices, or is
GPGServices stand-alone?</p>
<p>(2) Does GPGServices support symmetric-key encryption/decryption
(which is all I want to do)? The following discussion suggests that
I can:</p>
<p><a href=

http://gpgtools.lighthouseapp.com/projects/67607/tickets/74-symmetr...</a></p>
<p>but I don't see any documentation of this feature in a user
guide.</p>
<p>Thanks for your help.</p>

installed. I did a partial install (not GPGMail and not GPG
Keychain Access). I can now right-click on a text filename and in
my "Services" submenu I can select "OpenPGP: Encrypt." In the
resulting window, I uncheck "Add to recipients" since I have no
recipients, and I check "Encrypt with password". However, it
doesn't ask me for a password; it just saves a .gpg file of size
zero kb. Could it be because I did not do a full install?</p></div>joetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/240108802013-01-23T18:20:01Z2013-01-23T18:44:47ZGPGServices broken on 10.6<div><p>Hi Joe,</p>
<p>could you please try to install MacGPG2 from <a href=
"https://nightly.gpgtools.org">https://nightly.gpgtools.org</a><br>
That should solve the problem where you're not being asked for a
password and should then lead to a correctly password encrypted
file.</p>
<p>Hope that helps.</p></div>Luke Letag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/240108802013-01-27T06:41:24Z2013-01-27T06:41:25ZGPGServices broken on 10.6<div><p>Hi Luke,</p>
<p>Thanks for suggesting that I install MacGPG2. I just installed
it from the nightly page, and I also uninstalled and reinstalled
GPGTools from that page. Unfortunately, that did not change
anything.</p>
<p>Again, the problem is that I right-click on a text filename and
in my "Services" submenu I select "OpenPGP: Encrypt." In the
resulting window, I uncheck "Add to recipients" since I have no
recipients, and I check "Encrypt with password". However, it
doesn't ask me for a password; it just saves a .gpg file of size
zero kb.</p>
<p>I have attached a screenshot of what I see just before I click
"encrypt".</p>
<p>Thanks for your help.</p>
<p>Joe</p></div>joetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/240108802013-01-27T18:40:45Z2013-01-27T18:40:47ZGPGServices broken on 10.6<div><p>Actually, sorry, that is a bad screenshot up there. When I'm
trying to encrypt with a password, I have the "Add to recipients"
box UNchecked, and the "Encrypt with password" box CHECKED, as in
the screenshot that is attached THIS time. Yet it still creates a
.gpg file with zero kb. Again, I have MacGPG2 and GPGTools (except
for GPGMail) installed from the most recent nightly.</p>
<p>thanks...</p>

<p>could you please follow these steps and post the output:<br>
1.) Open Terminal.app (/Application/Utilities/)<br>
2.) Write the this line and press enter afterwards:<br>
gpg2 --version 3.) Post the result</p>
<p>Our MacGPG2 version on nightly is currently broken, and it's
pretty likely that you have a faulty one as well.</p>
<p>Sorry for the inconvenience, we're on it to fix this!</p></div>Luke Letag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/240108802013-01-27T20:17:48Z2013-01-27T20:17:51ZGPGServices broken on 10.6<div><p>Hi Luke.</p>

<p>we've just fixed some very annoying 10.6 related MacGPG2 issues
as well as an installation issue with GPGServices.</p>
<p>Could you please run <a href=

GPGServices-43n.dmg</a> from our nightly page?</p>
<p>That should fix your problem. Let us know how it goes.</p>
<p>All the best, steve</p></div>Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/240108802013-02-03T20:29:03Z2013-02-03T20:29:04ZGPGServices broken on 10.6<div><p>Hello Steve. Thanks for the fixes. I installed the new MacGPG2
and GPGServices and I successfully encrypted and decrypted a file
using a password. Yes!</p>
<p>Minor issue: when I decrypt the file "test.doc.gpg" (which had
been created by encrypting "test.doc"), the result is a file named
"5". The type of this file is Document and I am able to open it
using both TextEdit and Microsoft Word, and it appropriately
contains the same content as the original "test.doc".</p>
<p>This occurs whether or not there is a pre-existing file named
"test.doc" in the same folder. The name is "5" in either case.</p>
<p>I am guessing that you would rather this output file be named
"test.doc" (or maybe "test-1.doc" if there is already a "test.doc"
in the folder, as my old PGP 10.0 would have done).</p>
<p>Thanks for your help thus far, and please let me know if you
intend to address the file naming issue.</p>
<p>Thanks,</p>

Could you attach a sample file which causes this behavior so we can
test against that?</p>

<p>What's even stranger is that I can no longer reproduce the
error.</p>
<p>I guess we'll have to consider this problem solved!</p>
<p>Thanks for your help on all of the above.</p>
<p>Best,</p>

run into this problem again, just re-open this discussion and let
us know. Maybe have a look if something odd shows up in console and
send a sample file.</p>
