Environment:

  • Software name and version: GPGMail 2.0a32
  • OS X version: 10.7.5
  • GPGTools Installer date: 1/14/2013

What do you expect to see? What do you see instead?

When sending mails from windows outlook to mac or from windows outlook to windows outlook itself, the encrypted message is in the body of the mail and can therefore be encrypted.

However, when trying to send a mail from mac mail to windows outlook, mac mail encrypts the text and puts it as an attachment. Since the email no longer has a body, windows outlook does not even try to decrypt the message(the option of decryption is disabled due to the body being empty).

My question is, if there is any possibility to not put the encrypted text as an attachment when sending encrypted mails using mac mail but rather put the encrypted text as email body. My windows outlook uses the outlook privacy plugin which is based on PGP aswell.

Hey Kevin, this is a shortcoming in outlook. It does not correctly support PGP/MIME which is opposed to inline (the other option) a documented standard.

Here's how to activate inline for

    • Open Terminal
    • Enter
defaults write org.gpgtools.gpgmail UseOpenPGPInlineToSend -bool YES|NO

Be aware that inline support is experimental. Also inline will only work for text. You can't use it with attachments.

Let us know if that helped.
    Best, steve
