Can't import my private or public keys after installing nightly build of installer

Hi Support,

I would like to start by saying that I am very new to GPG, but your instructions and forums have helped me a lot!! After having installed GPGTools and created my first key, I was having trouble getting the services to work, so I installed the nightly build of the GPG Tools installer and was able to fix my problem with services. However, after using the installer, my private and public keys were no longer in GPG Keychain Access. I therefore tried to import my keys (which were stored in ASCII format in a .asc file before i updated the installer), however every time I try, it says:

Import Failed!
Code = 0

Error text:

I have tried changing the file extension to .txt or .gpg but it hasn't helped. I also tried to use services to decrypt the file as described in a previous discussion, but when I try to decrypt the file using services, it says "Unexpected decrypt error". I am not sure how to go about successfully importing my key back into GPG keychain access. Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi Victor,

    frist off, GPG Keychain Access does not save your keys in an asc file but in the gnupg keyring. So did you export all your keys into the asc file as a backup option?

    Could you please (again) try the latest nightly Installer and see if that helps? Run that and import the asc file you've created.

    Also if you still experience issues after running the latest nightly installer, please also try the GPG Keychain Access nightly.

    Let us know how that goes,
    best, steve

    Thank you very much for your suggestion! I downloaded the nightly build of the entire GPG Tools package and re-installed it and that was able to fix the problem!!!!
    I was also had a security question regarding the exportation of keys for backups. When I exported my private key, it does not ask for my passphrase. Is that because the private key that I export is still encrypted by my passphrase? So if someone were to walk by my computer when it was open, could they access my secret key just by clicking export keys? Thanks you for your help!!

    Victor, I'm closing this discussion, since this question is solved. Let's continue in the other open discussion about your security question. I'll try to answer when I find the time.

    Glad the nightly did solve your importing issue.

    best,
    steve
