How is the Mountain Lion version coming along? I'm interested in trying it out, and I don't mind donating, how does this work?

    Hi Jackson,

we're still fixing some important bugs before we're releasing the public preview,
but the version that donors have received so far is already very stable.

If you should decide to donate it works like this, that we'll send you an email with the link to the preview version within 24 hours upon receiving a confirmation mail (which paypal for example sends immediately)

    All information here:
    https://www.gpgtools.org/donate.html#donate-paypal

If you know how to build from source you can also build it yourself using the code at https://github.com/GPGTools/GPGMail. Branch experimental.

Thanks for your interest and support :)!

    Hi Luke,

Thanks for your quick reply, I built the experimental branch from source (I like to try before I buy), but now I'm having some issues. For example, the encrypt icon in the Mail.app is not functional (it's just an open light grey lock that can't be clicked on), also when I right click and select "OpenPgP: Insert My Key" it inserts two copies on my key.

If we can resolve these issues I would be thrilled to donate some money to you guys, with Bitcoin of course! :)

    Cheers,

    Jackson

    Hi Jackson,

in order to encrypt a message to someone there are two requirements:
1.) Your sender address must match a key which has the same address associated
2.) You must have a key which matches the address of the recipient.

If these two requirements are satisfied you should be able to encrypt.
Also please make sure that in Mail.app -> Preferences -> GPGMail you see the green light, otherwise please check Console.app for any error messages related to GPGMail

To fix your second problem, please install the GPGServices version from https://nightly.gpgtools.org
It's currently the most stable one.

    Hope that helps.

So, am I correct in thinking that at the moment, being on Mountain Lion means I'm not able to use GPGTools to encrypt, and, more importantly, decrypt some files i encrypted whilst on Snow Leopard?

When I double click a .gpge file, I get the message "You can't open the application GPGFileTool because PowerPC applications are no longer supported".

    What's my alternative?

    Many thanks.

After installing GPGTools, and enabling the GPG related services under System Prefereneces > Keyboard > Keyboade shortcuts > Services, I noticed that right-clicking a file in Finder gives me various GPG functionality under Services. As I understand it now, after having browsed around to try to get a solution equivalent to that of GPGFileTool to work in Mountain Lion, this (using the Services menu) seems to be the way to do it. Correct?

Many thanks for a great product!

Marc, you are perfectly right. GPGServices could be considered the followup software to GPGFileTool which has been unmaintained for over 10 years now. I'm always surprised that still here and there people pop-up that are looking for a working version of GPGFileTool.

Glad you got this working on your system now. Can I close this discussion?

    Happy new-year,

    Thanks Steve.

I guess the fact that ppl still use / look for GPGFileTool shows it is / was a good tool :)

From my point of view you can close this discussion, but I'm not sure the OP is satisfied.

Anyway, thanks again for some great tools. And Happy New Year!

Jackson, you can donate via Bitcoin if you want to do so.

Do you need any further info?

Ok, that would be great; then you will send me the binary file? What do you consider a fair donation? :)

Every amount is fine really. You could also donate 1$ and if you like it come back. Anything goes.

on 10.8.2, the preview causes Mail to log zillions of sandbox error messages pretty much constantly. Is this one of the bugs you're working on? I had to uninstall the tools.

Scott, we are aware of those errors. In practice they won't do any harm (except clutter your console view), but will be gone in the final version of GPGMail.

Not sure, how that is reason enough to uninstall the preview. But you can of course do so, if you want.

It was quite the spew into the log and appeared to cause spotlight to continuously index. It also seemed to cause conflict with another machine running Mail on the same imap accounts, causing endless syncing of drafts.

    Hi Scott,

simply delete the file in question /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
and you'll not see these messages again.
Spotlight indexing continuously most likely has nothing to do with that.
