Re: [GPGTools] Importing other people's public keys [Everything]
Hi
I have watched the screencast and read the documentation but I appear to
only have GPG Keychain Access installed. I don't have an app called GPG
Tools or GPG Mail, which is odd as I was under the assumption it was a
bundled? =/

Hey Mikey, we'll get you sorted :)
GPGMail is not a standalone app. You won't see it in your program folder. It's a plug-in for apples mail.app. Go to mail.app > settings and there you'll see an entry for the plug-in.
GPGTools isn't a stand-along software as well. It's the name for all the tools we provide. So no need to search in your program folder yet again.
Again, this is a good starting point:

Hi again
I don't actually use Apple's Mail application and I'm not trying to encrypt
messages for email either. I want to encrypt messages to send over certain
forums that I use. A few people who I know who use GPG have it linked up to
TextEdit and use TextEdit for writing their messages and encrypting them.
Apparently there should be an option under System Preferences to connect
GPG and TextEdit, however I don't appear to have that option as I can't
find it.
Any help?
Thanks again

Hi Mikey,
if you used our GpGTools Installer you already habe everything
you need. There's no Need to "connect" any apps.
If you select a text in TextEdit and click the right mouse Button you should
see the entry Services at the bottom and this entry should
have a submenu where you find OpenPGP: Encrypt.
Use that Option to encrypt the text.
Let us know if that worked out for you.

Hey again
That's what I've been trying to do but that option isn't there. Moreover,
in the screencast when it says go to System Preferences>GPG Preferences
that option isn't there either on my Macbook.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail. I guess I
should point out that I'm using Leopard and not Lion. I'm guessing this
might have something to do with this?

Uh alright, that might be an issue.
@Alex: Is GPGServices supposed to work without problems on 10.5?

Yeah, sorry, it never crossed my mind to mention it before hand =/

Hi, GPGServices and GPGPreferences are all for OS X >= 10.6.
Best regards, Alex

Sorry, but since GPGServices only supports 10.6, there's not a lot we can currently do. (also see: http://www.gpgtools.org/gpgservices/index.html)
So are you a PowerPC user or could you upgrade your OS? We might do a backport someday, but currently are very busy getting other things with higher priority done first.
Another solution for you might be something that is browser based. I know this is being worked on but am not aware if it is public already (and thus bug free ;)).
Closing this for now. If you need more help let us know and re-open this discussion or open a new one.
