Mail.app 5.1 with GPGMail won't open if volume with private key isn't mounted
Hello all,
I keep my GPG secret key on a separate, encrypted disk image, which I mount only when I need the secret keys. With the newest version of GPGMail (GPGMail 2.0a4), whenever I open Mail.app while the secret key disk is not mounted, Mail.app bounces, but then stops, and in the crash log, it seems to fail at:
1 org.gpgtools.gpgmail 0x000000010ae42957 -[GPGMailBundle loadGPGKeys] + 141
With older (pre-Lion) versions of GPGmail, although I couldn't encrypt or sign anything with that disk image unmounted, Mail would still open as normal. This is obviously preferred, as 99% of my mail is unencrypted and unsigned, and there's no sense having that disk mounted when it's not needed.
Is there anything I can change in the settings to change this behavior, or is this a bug which needs fixed?
Thanks,
Will

Hi will,
that is a known Bug of the released Alpha Version.
Next Release will fix that.
I'll send you the link to a Version with the fix a
little later

Now is later: http://cl.ly/1g0Z2e14142Z3k3q0C3V :)
It's the dev version, but it should be pretty stable

The upcoming Version will also reload your keys once
a diskimage is mounted and update the available keys appropriately

Great! The a11 build doesn't have the bug (although it displays an error dialog (below) when starting mail if the image is unmounted). You all just keep improving this software, I appreciate it!

This should only show if your disk image holds the entire
gpg installation

Hmm, odd. It does not. The only file on the disk image (pertaining to GPG) is secring.gpg.

Luke,
One other issue:
If, with your GPG private key directory dismounted, you open a signed message (or a thread containing one), Mail crashes. Every time. Likely a similar problem, so I just wanted to report it.
Thanks,
Will

Oh, interesting, have seen that before.
Could you send attach a crash log?

Luke,
Steps to reproduce:
1) Dismount your Private Key.
2) Close Mail
3) Open Mail back up (You'll get that same little warning message)
4) Open a signed message (if it doesn't work with any signed message, I'll forward the one that's killing me)
5) Mail slows then crashes, never loading the message.
Here's a crash log:
Thanks,
Will

Thanks for the detailed bug report.
I'll investigate and try to reproduce it and will get back to you, once I know more.

Also, for what it's worth, this is with the pre-release you sent.

Created an issue report for it so we can hint this bug down. Have a look at http://gpgtools.lighthouseapp.com/projects/65764/tickets/392
Thanks for the report.

Luke,
This crash is still happening with the newest, Christmas release of GPGTools. The steps to reproduce are identical.
Happy Holidays!
