Help with exporting key!!
I have been trying to figure out how to use gpg for some time,
but I keep running into the same problem.
I've been using this instructional:
http://www.robertsosinski.com/2008/02/18/working-with-pgp-and-mac-o...
I get every part fine until I open up the key in the keymat folder.
When I do so, the GPG keychain access window opens up, and another
window opens up saying "Nothing imported!"
I don't know what to do. I just want to get a hold of the key in
text form.
Thanks for any help,
Taylor

Hey Taylor,
thanks for your interest in this topic. You've come to the right place. :)
Thing is, the tutorial you are referring to is very old and most likely outdated or may not perfectly fit the latest GPGTools we offer.
No need to fiddle around with the terminal (unless you are in love with terminal, in which case I don't want to lure you away from it) there's no need to open it if you want to export a key.
Exporting a key:
first: you might wanna try to install the latest nightly of the GPGTools Installer, since it contains some important fixes regarding use of keys in GPG Keychain Access from here: http://nightly.gpgtools.org/
Important: If you only want the public key from your own key pair (with type "sec"), make sure to NOT tick the "export secret key" part. If that is not ticked you'll end up with only the public key (which is what you'll most likely want).
Does this help?
Cheers, steve

First off thanks for our help and reply, but I'm afraid that I'm still having trouble. I think I may have not fully explained/understood the situation (this stuff is very confusing for me). I have .asc armored keys in my key folder, but what I want is to be able to view them; that is I want to be able to look at the massive string of numbers etc. and copy and paste that. I have no idea how to do that.
Thanks,
Taylor

Ok so you have manage to export the public key. You end up with a file that has your key ID.asc
Open that file with TextEdit and you're done.
Is that what you are trying to do?

Great. Many things are easy if you know what to do. I myself have been playing around with a software for 60 minutes (just now) with great frustration just to find out that the solution is very simple...
:P
