Use via SSH (i.e., so no windows pop up on remote computer)?
Hi there,
If I ssh into my Mac and try to decrypt (using "gpg") a file that was encrypted using --symmetric, so it asks me for a passphrase, a window pops up on the remote Mac asking for the phrase. Is there a way to force the command line version of gpg to not use the GUI on a Mac? Thanks!

I see that someone else asked the same question recently, and the answer was "use GPG1 instead of GPG2." Now I have to locate GPG1 on my computer. Cheers!

Hi,
that's the easy way out, but not really the test.
Testing some stuff right now to find out if you can do it with gpg2 as well.

Sorry -- deleted this before I noticed your comment! Here's my original comment (roughly):
I'd like to use gpg from the command line on my Mac, without the GUI popup (e.g., over ssh). My solution (seen elsewhere) was to switch to gpg1. That works for me, but if there is a gpg2 solution, great. Cheers!

Currently there is no solution for macgpg2. If there'll be a solution we'll announce it as soon as macgpg2 can be used with ssh.
Sorry I don't have a better reply.

Hi tofergregg,
if you install the latest MacGPG2 version from nightly.gpgtools.org you can now enter the passphrase directly from the terminal as expected.
In order to do that you have to add the environment variable:
export PINENTRY_USER_DATA="USE_CURSES=1"
Best is to put it into your .bashrc
