All the previous suggestions mentioned on this forum no longer seem to work. The only thing that works is to set a system-wide SOCKS proxy in MacOS, but that is a bit too much for my purposes.

In the command line version, the below does the job for me, but doesn't work with GPGTools ... instead, GPGTools wants to go through the system-wide proxy, which is not Tor.

$ cat ~/.gnupg/dirmngr.conf keyserver hkps://keys.openpgp.org
use-tor

Thank you.

MisterTomtag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/494492482021-10-23T01:54:29Z2021-10-23T01:54:31ZHow to use proxy in 2021

the forum is eating my line breaks .. trying again

We will get back to you once that work is done.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/494492482021-10-29T10:39:48Z2021-10-29T10:39:48ZHow to use proxy in 2021

Hi MisterTom,

thanks for taking the time to get in touch with this problem.

The behavior you describe is expected.

However we have an open feature request to add allow for detection of tor configuration like you are using and then switching to use dirmngr instead of directly contacting the key server. I've added your comments and vote to it. The number of votes is one factor that helps us to determine what feature to add next.

Unfortunately there's no workaround for this problem at the time being. We're very sorry for that. This discussion will be updated however, when the requested feature is available.

Have a nice day,
Steve

Steve
