welcome to the GPGTools support platform. Sorry you are having problems using GPG Suite.

Does this problem persist when you install GPG Suite 2017.1 from our homepage?

Best,
steve

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/435685052017-09-26T20:10:53Z2017-09-26T20:10:55ZGPGMail: Mail app no longer opens

Yes it does. I first installed it by the automatic pop-up after restarting on Monday morning. Then I downloaded from the homepage and nothing. Tried the nightly as well and nothing.

I've attached the problem details and system config as well.

Jefftag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/435685052017-09-26T20:12:36Z2017-09-26T20:13:20ZGPGMail: Mail app no longer opens

OK, we'll look into this tomorrow. It's already very late in europe and offices closed.

We'll get back to you.

In order to use mail without crashing on startup, you could temporarily disable GPGMail:

shut down mail.app

open finder

navigate to /Library/Mail/Bundles or ~/Library/Mail/Bundles and copy GPGMail.mailbundle to your desktop

now delete GPGMail.mailbundle from the original folder

Restart mail and check in Mail.app > Preferences if you still see GPGMail. It should be gone.

To re-enable mail, close Mail.app and move the bundle file back to the Bundles folder.

Kindly,
steve

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/435685052017-09-26T20:29:08Z2017-09-26T20:29:09ZGPGMail: Mail app no longer opens

Thanks Steve. I have disabled GPGMail for now.

Jefftag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/435685052017-09-28T15:52:17Z2017-09-28T15:52:17ZGPGMail: Mail app no longer opens

Hi Steve, Just wanted to see if you and your team had been able to look at this situation. And is there a solution that I can be using now to decrypt my messages?

Jefftag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/435685052017-09-28T19:53:39Z2017-09-28T19:53:39ZGPGMail: Mail app no longer opens

Hey Jeff,

we are looking into this.

We have a ticket for this problem. I connected this discussion with the existing ticket. That means, should this discussion get closed, it will be re-opened as soon as the ticket is closed. That way you'll stay in the loop and get notified as soon as we have news. Feel free to open a new discussions should you run into further problems or need assistance.

There's been an initial attempt to fix the problem, but we'll let you know as soon as we have a version to be tested.

The following two Knowledge Base articles explain how GPGServices is used:

KB explaining how to encrypt and sign text or files

KB explaining decryption and verification

You can decrypt the messages using GPGServices as a workaround. Drag the encrypted.asc file to your desktop and decrypt from there.

Let me know if that worked.

Best,
https://www.hipchat.com/gyyOrLdWt

We can't promise a solution, but we'd like to inspect this problem in more detail.

All the best
steve

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/435685052017-09-28T20:14:15Z2017-09-28T20:14:15ZGPGMail: Mail app no longer opens

If you are not available at this moment, could you disable GPGMail and try to extract the message in question (likely the one selected when opening Mail.app). That way we could take a closer look at how this message is structured and what is causing the hang.

To temporarily disable GPGMail:

shut down mail.app

open finder

navigate to /Library/Mail/Bundles or ~/Library/Mail/Bundles and copy GPGMail.mailbundle to your desktop

now delete GPGMail.mailbundle from the original folder

Restart mail and check in Mail.app > Preferences if you still see GPGMail. It should be gone.

To re-enable mail, close Mail.app and move the bundle file back to the Bundles folder.

Please export the message in question, so that we can have a closer look. To export, simply select the message in Mail.app and press CMD + SHIFT + S, select "Raw Message Source" as type and save it.

Attach the resulting .eml file to this discussion by visiting it in your browser (email reply should work but sometimes attachments do not arrive).

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/435685052017-09-28T20:15:18Z2017-09-28T20:15:18ZGPGMail: Mail app no longer opens

I need more sleep. I keep forgetting stuff.

Could you also please download and install our latest GPG Suite nightly build and see if the problem persists. That page also has sig and SHA256 to verify the download.

All the best,

Disclaimer: This is a development version which has not been thoroughly tested yet - bugs or crashes are to be expected. Thanks for helping us test.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/435685052017-10-02T18:18:44Z2017-10-02T18:18:47ZGPGMail: Mail app no longer opens

the nightly build seems to be stable on my computer.
Can you do one more test for us. I would be highly interested in learning how GPG Suite 2017.1 behaves if you just download the stable release from our homepage and re-install that.

Are you still seeing the crashes with Mail.app then?

If so, please migrate to the latest nightly again and stay with that build until the next stable release.

All the best,
