following up to my first contact about that subject in 2013, I'll ask again (with slight corrections). See https://gpgtools.tenderapp.com/discussions/problems/11131-saving-un...

Has anyone thought over the searchability of encrypted mails (especially outside Apple Mail.app)? I have a huge mail archive and it often helped me out by researching a topic with Spotlight, Grep or Alpine (the latter has much better search facilities). The biggest Drawback for me to actually use encryption by default is that I cannot search the messages afterwards, since they get saved in encrypted form.

I know this is by intend, to protect the mails: PGP is about end to end encryption. So I'd love to have the choice to write back the unencrypted mail to disk/IMAP/whatever (not possible with Pop3, at least) to keep the stuff searchable. A quick search on this topic put up nothing besides my initial post.

Yes, I know that I lose secrecy with this. That's why I think about this possible feature as a choice to be switched on or off in general, with the ability to make exempts per Mail with another icon or something like that.

Thanks for reading, sharing, agreeing or considering. :-)

welcome back. We don't have news on this as we are focussing on other areas currently. You are correct and having such an option you discribe would be great. But it's not trivial to implement.
