GPGMail: Auto-search for keys

There has been discussion for six or so years now about automatically searching for keys. I think the latest update is here, from June 2016:

This looks like a superb feature, and I wonder if there is any further update on it?

    Hi Neil,

    thank you for your interest in this feature.
    This is unfortunately much hard than we originally expected, especially if we want to implement it using the nice UI you could see in the knowledge base article.
    We did have a working prototype for El Capitan, but unfortunately future updates to macOS completely broke the entire code. We are certain to add this feature in the future, but it will be some more time until that happens.

    Yes it can be a true pain and makes development of new features additionally hard :(
