installation
just downloaded gpg suite, installed it on imac running Sierra but no icons appear in Mac mail. I have made keys for two email accounts but the promised signature and encryption symbols do not show up in outgoing test message
no other plugins that I know of

Hey Chris,
welcome to the GPGTools support platform. Sorry you are having problems using GPG Suite.
This sounds like you installed the stable GPG Suite which will not yet work on macOS 10.12. Please download and install GPG Suite 2017.1b2 from our homepage and let me know if that brings you to working state.
For new users, we often recommend to go through our Getting Started Tutorial, which will help you with the initial setup and prevent the most common mistakes.
