<p>whenever you create a key, this results in a secret and public key pair being created. The secret key is needed in order to decrypt and sign messages.</p>
<p>For new users we recommend reading the <a href="https://support.gpgtools.org/kb/how-to/first-steps-where-do-i-start-where-do-i-begin-setup-gpgtools-create-a-new-key-your-first-encrypted-mail">Getting Started Tutorial</a>.</p>
<p>Also this <a href="https://support.gpgtools.org/kb/how-to/introduction-to-cryptography">KB-article</a> explains the basics of public key cryptography. It's a long text but worth the time.</p>
