I hate subscriptions
I have been supporting the GPGTools project for several years. I just paid the support plan for GPG Mail because it was the time of the year when I pour my support for free projects. But I refuse to use software that overnight stops working because the subscription is complete. I trashed Adobe, Microsoft, CLamXAV and other products every time they switched from "one shot paiement" to "life annuity" mode. I think the GPG suite will perhaps follow the same path and I'll go take a look at MacPorts to see how I can replace it.

It's not a subscription, is it? Maybe I misunderstood, but just new Major releases require new payment. Like Adobe back in the day.
I mean yes, the old versions of GPGMail won't be helpful anymore with newer MacOS versions, but that's just how it goes...

Hi Trash,
thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and feelings.
We sincerely apologize that the introduction of the GPG Mail Support Plan wasn't communicated as clear as we had hoped. We can absolutely understand if that frustrates you.
All the open questions should now be answered on the following pages:
In order to make it abundantly clear for users who haven't updated to 2018.4 yet, we have added a red banner on top of our release notes:

To sum up the most important points about GPG Mail 3 and the Support Plan:
We would really like to see you stay, but want to assure you that even if you don't like our offering there are many alternatives available. The encryption technology which is used in GPG Suite is not a proprietary one, so you are not reliant on our tools to decrypt your existing emails. There is no lock-in. In additon all of our source code is available publicly.
Best,
Steve
