Hello, I can't seem to select symmetric key encryption button in Apple mail. Signatures and PKI button work fine.
Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks,

JAM

    Hi Jam

What exactly are you trying to achieve ? If you are sending encrypted emails you are already using symmetric key. If you want to specify what symetric keys to use by default then you will have to pick the ones you want via the "algorithm preferences" (Key>algorithm preferences)

    Thanks

    Hi Jim,

symmetric encryption broke with the 10.10 update of mail.app. When we implemented symmetric encryption it was pretty much a quick hack and never fully implemented. For now we've decided to no longer support symmetric encryption, so it would be best to disable that feature by following these steps:

    • close mail.app
    • open Terminal.app
    • paste defaults write org.gpgtools.gpgmail AllowSymmetricEncryption -bool NO

If you need symmetric encryption for your work, you can fallback on GPGServices for those purposes.

    All the best,
    steve
