Older Mail

I'm running into something I've not seen in other threads.

Older mail - that is encrypted mail received PRIOR to the installation of the beta is not showing the ability to decrypt the mail, no icons or no prompt for the key to decrypt.

I can however encrypt and send new email.

Mail received AFTER installation of the beta is able to unencrypt the email.

I am back to the release version using Tbird and the Enigmail plug in in the inerim.

I've tried complete uninstalls and reinstalls etc.to no avail.

Any ideas? I am back to the

   Hi Mark,

   this behavior is expected. Old mail is not encrypted. We do have a feature request pending to allow users to encrypt existing mail.

   The question though is, how much is gained. The mail which would then be encrypted has gone from author to recipient via a ton of servers and all that route has been taken without being encrypted. So if you then encrypt the mail locally after receiving it, that may prevent your neighboor visiting being able to read it, but it's probably already stored in some large silo facility of some three letter agency.

   Hope this explains the behavior.

   Seems I wasn't clear
   Let me give you an example
   I write an encrypted mail yesterday
   receive an encrypted reply today.

   Install the beta tomorrow and try to open the email that I received that was encrypted. That was the issue after the beta was installed previously receive email was not unencrpyting.

   I resolved that issue by manually deleting the plug in and ensuring the latest was installed.

   I still have one user who's email will not unencrpyt. But it works with Tbird so it's not a key issue. Thanks for the response.

   Hi Mark,

   it's possible that some of our changes have accidentally removed compatibility with strangely structured emails. If possible, it would be great to have a look at the .eml file of the message which will no decrypt.
   To export it, select the message, press SHIFT + CMD + S and as format/type choose "Raw email" (or something with raw in it)

   Please send that message to team @ gpgtools.org so we can have a look.
