Upon startup the GPG files have the icon. After I close finder and reopen the icon is missing for these files and only returns after I logout and log back in.

When I resize icon size in finder with slide bar, the very small and very large icons have the blue lock but those in the middle do not.

I run iMac Retina 5K, 27 inch, Late 2015

macOS 10.12.6

This behavior does not vary. I’e reinstalled made should of the file association in “Get Info”

Expected
Obviously the Blue Lock should appear on all icons

Additional info
I have a Macbook pro running updated El Capitan and this does not happen there. No issues

welcome to the GPGTools support platform. Sorry you are having problems using GPG Suite.

Could you attach a screenshot showing the problem. Am I understanding your report correctly that when you de- or increase the visual size of the files with the missing icon, the icon then is shown as expected?

If so, a screencast would be helpful to understand what's going on there.

You can create a screencast using the onboard QuickTime software.

open QuickTime

in the menubar select File > New Screen Recording

in the new window, click the dropdown arrow next to the record icon and enable 'Show Mouse Clicks in Recording'

press record and reproduce the problem you are having with GPG Suite

To end the recording, press the 'Stop' icon in the menubar icon section. Save the file and attach it to your existing discussion by visiting your discussion in your browser.

All the best,

Thanks for getting back to me. The quicktime is attached.

Jim

Jimtag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/431517512017-08-09T10:42:23Z2017-08-09T10:42:23Zfile icon missing on files in Finder (likely macOS bug)

Interesting. Does this problem still happen if you move the file out of the dropbox folder?

This looks a lot like a bug in macOS. I don't think there's a whole lot we can do about that.

If the problem persists outside of the dropbox folder I'd suggest you report this to apple and let them know about this bug.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/431517512017-08-09T22:37:38Z2017-08-09T22:37:39Zfile icon missing on files in Finder (likely macOS bug)

Thanks. It does persist in other folders. I'll pursue with Apple.

This is a terrific product. Just made a donation now.

Best to you

Jim Drumhellertag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/431517512017-08-11T10:19:38Z2017-08-11T10:19:38Zfile icon missing on files in Finder (likely macOS bug)

Thanks a lot - that's highly appreciated.

Feel free to follow up with what apple has to say about this.

Kindly,

Unsurprisingly, Apple says it does not provide support for 3rd party software issues.

I still don't see how the finder not displaying a file icon would be related to GPG Suite.

If you interested in further debugging this, you could create a new test user for your mac, install GPG Suite and see if you are able to reproduce the problem with that new test user.

Stevetag:gpgtools.tenderapp.com,2011-11-04:Comment/431517512017-09-29T11:00:35Z2017-09-29T11:00:36Zfile icon missing on files in Finder (likely macOS bug)

Update on icon problem.

Resolved after upgrade to High Sierra.

And confirms the suspicion, that something was off in macOS. Good to hear the update to macOS 10.13 fixed this.
