Able to read contents in encrypted email, the encrypted icon remained locked
GPGMail
As the fourth slide at https://gpgtools.org/gpgsuite.html said, "If the message was successfully decrypted, you'll see an open lock.” I just received a test encrypted message. While I was able to read contents in the email, the encrypted icon remained locked.
What did you expect instead
The lock to appear open.
Describe steps leading to the problem.
- Received email
- Was able to read email
- Reviewed https://gpgtools.org/gpgsuite.htm to verify everything seemed to be working
- Noticed inconsistency

Hi Zach,
welcome to the GPGTools support platform. Sorry you are having problems using GPG Suite.
We really need to update those screenshots. The open lock has not been in use for quite a while now.
What's happening in your case is: you are actually looking at a mail which has successfully been decrypted.
The reason you were not asked for the password of your key is that you either stored that in the macOS keychain or the password was still in the cache. Please see this KB-article on how to manage passwords for your keys.
We have a ticket to update the screenshots + texts on the website. I connected this discussion with the existing ticket. That means, should this discussion get closed, it will be re-opened as soon as the ticket is closed. That way you'll stay in the loop and get notified as soon as we have news. Feel free to open a new discussions should you run into further problems or need assistance.
Let me know if this makes sense.
All the best,
steve
